The development of QCodeEdit was recently boosted by the unexpected commercial interest it caught. I have indeed be contacted to discuss the possibility of releasing it under a commercial license for it appeared to be a very attractive alternative to QScintilla and QTextEdit/QSyntaxHighlighter combo which are, as far as I know, the only existing "concurrents"... The licensing question is not solved yet as I don't own a Qt Commercial License myself but as the GPL exception allows the code to be released under BSD style license there will probably be a solution. The goodness of it is that it led me to fix a couple of bugs reported by my new customer but also to add new features he needed. Among other things, QCodeEdit has gained : - support for variable width fonts
- support for case sensitivity fine-tunning in syntax definition files
- column selection
- column edition
- cursor mirrors (an extension of the column selection)
- indent/unindent through a simple action (menu, toolbar or context menu)
- comment/uncomment the exact same way, provided the syntax allows it
- much better find/replace (now works as expected
)
After two weeks of intense bugfixing and testing, I've come to something that really rocks and, as many people dislike (or don't even know) SVN, I ended up releasing a new package to avoid confusions with the very old one left on Sourceforg donwloads servers...
You can get it in the downloads section and enjoy all the improvements. :D

This is a call to willing volunteers : People following KDE developmment through PlanetKDE will probably notice that the image has already appeared there. I indeed took it from a blog post from a KWord hacker. It turns out that we are in a similar situation : after a couple of weeks, the dev team (caduel, which recently joined, and I) significantly improved the stability and usability of the app. This would be enough to call for testers before a 1.0 release, but there's more to it... |
